Painting-a-Day Blogs
What do you think of the Painting-a-Day phenomenon that was originated by Duane Keiser? One of his recent paintings is shown below, titled "First Bouquet of Spring."

The idea is that you do a small painting every single day -- rain or shine -- 365 days a year, and display the finished pieces on a blog. Usually the paintings are offered for sale, but not always. Duane has been fabulously successful with his paintings, and other painters have adopted the Painting-a-Day format. There's a blog called the Daily Painters Art Gallery that is dedicated to showing the work of some of them.
Some painters say that the discipline of painting something every day has greatly improved their work. I don't think I could do it, unless I painted something very different from what I'm painting now. My paintings take a long time to develop -- much more than one day.
Have any of you tried to do a painting a day?

I am a daily painter and these painting cannot be your main focus, they are like sketches really and they help you in many ways but can hurt you as well, People look at these small paintings and judge you based sole on the dailies. These painting can take a couple of minutes to a couple of hours they are not serious art, thats why they are sold for much lower prices. Most daily painters will tell you the same thing. We love to paint everyday and these little paintings can be studies and they can be jumping off points. Sometimes you paint a really great one but mostly they are what they are, small paintings of any subject done in a few hours to keep you limbered up so to speak.
Hi Shant,
Thanks for your perspective on the Painting-a-Day format. I can see that daily painting would be good for keeping you in shape and as studies for larger pieces down the road. I still don't think I have the time! Some days I don't paint at all, because I'm busy with marketing.
Hi Shant,
I am a daily painter http://paintingoftheday.blogspot.com .I do the paintings daily to lossen up and explore ideas that I might not do in a larger work. There is also the challenge of working small. Most of my daily paintings are 5x7. It is fun to get out of your normal box and try different things that you might never do on a large scale. I think it opens the mind to possibilities. It is also keeps you thinking, what will I paint tomorrow? I have been able to get to know someother wonderful painters by doing this.
Hi Cassandra,
I am working on my blog and will be launching soon and I agree with you that some paintings cannot be finished in one day. I have a business to run as well as trying to paint one a day and it is not always possible. I have seen other artist as well that are doing commission work, etc and also don't have the time to do one a day but are doing their best and still selling a lot of work.
Putting the painting a day in the correct perspective it is really great but sometimes is just not possible. Your work is beautiful and you should do what is best for you. This should be a no pressure fun thing. Keep up the nice work. There are no real rules.
