Rags Magazine

Do you remember Rags magazine, counterculture magazine published in San Francisco circa 1970-71? Rags is my all-time favorite magazine, and I still have some of them. If you weren't familiar with Rags, you can experience it now, on my Rags Magazine blog. I received permission from the publisher to post pages from the magazines, and I'm planning to post twice a week or so. Check it out!

Fire

Smoky Sky

This is a composite panorama of the smoke in the sky at about 5:30 today -- an hour and a half before sunset. You can't see it here, but the sun was blood red. It was dark out, and it was raining ashes. I guess this is from the fire burning near Ojai, sixty or so miles away. It's amazing that the ashes can travel that far. Very sad for the wildlife.

Unexpected Results

This is pretty funny. I molded some tomatoes, and the tomato seeds began to sprout!

Tomatoes

Tomatoes

I've never seen that happen before. Don't get too attached to that lovely orange color. I'm pretty sure it's just pigment from the tomatoes, and will wash out.

I guess it's true that tomatoes grow anywhere -- even between sheets of Plexiglas!

Wet Paint Show

Mark your calendar! I'll be part of the "Wet Paint" show sponsored by the LACMA Art Museum Council, on Sunday, October 22nd, from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm, at Roxbury Park in Beverly Hills. All of the participating artists will be working on their art in the park, thus the name, "Wet Paint." I think I'm going to bring work from my new "Decomposition" series to work on. I might do some stitching and stretching, or maybe some detail painting.

It should be fun! Hope to see you there.
