Assemblage Sculptures

I've been playing around with found beach rocks and found pieces of wood lately to make these little existentialist sculptures. Keep in mind that these are small.

I'm not sure if they're done or not, and if not, what else they need. I like their simplicity.

Spring Is In the Air

This is one of my favorite flowering plants in the backyard, and it's just beginning to bloom. I don't know what it's called, but isn't it gorgeous?

McDougall Plan

I want to share this story with you even though it's kind of personal, because there might be other people out there who will be helped by it.

In January, my friend Ron (OK -- I know you don't like it when I mention your name on my blog, but I'm pretty sure no one is going to figure out your true identity from this, and even if they do, who cares?) went to the
McDougall Ten-Day Live-In Program in Santa Rosa. I didn't go to the program, but I got to hear about it everyday from Ron.

I've been a vegetarian for many years, but this is a little different. Dr. McDougall advocates a 100% vegan diet (no dairy or eggs), and eliminating the use of all added oil. And, he doesn't recommend taking any supplements, except, perhaps, a little B-12. If you're interested, you can read about the health benefits of eating this way on
Dr. McDougall's website and in his newsletter archives.

So I stopped eating dairy, eggs and oil, and felt the difference right away. It was two weeks of hell getting off of the supplements, but now that I'm off of them, I feel better. And I don't have to spend all of that money on supplements every month anymore. Who knew?

Eyes

My 53rd birthday was last week, and I have never felt better in my life! I don't have headaches anymore, I have more energy, my mind is clearer and more focused, I feel happy, I lost my sweet cravings, I'm not moody like I used to be, I don't have any inflammatory pain anymore, and my eyes are clearer. It's truly amazing.

Am I hungry all the time? Not at all. I can eat as much as I want, as long as it's vegan with no added oil. Now when I eat oil it feels too heavy. It weighs me down and makes me feel sluggish. The McDougalls (John and his wife Mary) have published lots of good cookbooks of oil-free vegan recipes.

I urge you to give this a try, especially if you have chronic health problems like I did. If you want to know more, buy one of
Dr. McDougall's books or DVDs. They're also available used on Amazon.

Thank you, Dr. McDougall.
