Hi Friends,
My coronavirus collage series is beginning to wind down, and I had a new inspiration — to create collage hearts that will bring much needed light and healing to the world.
My inner critic kicked in big time. Hearts? Hearts are dumb. Hearts are cliché. A series of hearts isn’t going to go anywhere. People will laugh at you if you make hearts.
That inner voice can be loud, but I stood my ground. Calm down! Let’s just give the hearts a chance and see what develops. What’s the worst that can happen? They’ll be a big flop. So what? It’s not the end of the world.
I won the argument, and the collages below are the first two heart pieces in my new series, “Love Will Prevail.” Click on the images for more information and to purchase this work.
This first collage is about the process we’re all going through now, as we begin to ease out of lockdown. We’re birthing new life and creating a new world — possibly a better world than the one we left behind.
“Birthing New Life,” 14 x 11 inches, collage and colored pencil on cradled wood panel
The second piece is about the difficulty we have in expressing ourselves, and missed opportunities for connection.
“There Are No Words,” 14 x 11 inches, collage on cradled wood panel
Hearts don’t have to be pink and red. The heart is a shape that symbolizes love, but not necessarily the romantic love of Valentine’s Day. These new heart pieces depict universal love — love for oneself, life, all beings and the planet. They’re here to help usher in a new world that I hope will be based on love and compassion rather than fear.
What will your new world look like? What do you want to take from the old world, and what would you like to change? I’d enjoy hearing your thoughts. You can share them with us in the comments section below.
With love and appreciation,
Cassandra
