An Inside Look at My Art Process

Greetings Friends,

I’ve been having fun with videos lately! It started with one video where I talked about a painting I’m working on, and now I’m doing almost daily videos discussing my work.

In these short 2-3 minute studio updates, I show work-in-progress, discuss my process step-by-step, and talk about my plans and ideas for the work. You get to see the successes as well as the failures, and how I deal with challenges.

The painting below is one that I feature in the videos. It’s titled “Weathered,” and it conveys the feeling of something old and worn that has developed a beautiful patina over time.

There’s a lot of layering in this piece. It started as a poured painting that didn’t work out. I sanded that down, and then applied several layers of textured white to create a white-on-white painting. That wasn’t particularly interesting, so I sanded down the white, and this is how it turned out.

Now I really like it, but it took a long time to get to this point.

  1. Hi Cassandra. I have received your weekly email for the past year since I bought an eco printing PDF. I am a skeptic in general, but I have to admit, I enjoyed your eight studio updates that I checked out earlier today. Please continue them. Thanks, Cidne Hart (Los Angeles)
