Baby Art

Greeting Friends,

I went to a party over the weekend for a new baby in the family. Her name is Fiona, and she’s my cousin’s daughter’s first child. I think that makes her my first cousin twice removed.

I was inspired to create a painting for her as a gift. I didn’t want to use traditional “girl” colors, and instead went with a more eclectic palette. It’s a many layered piece that started with a pushed painting and plastic wrap texture, and ended with masking and splatters. I call it “Jackson Pollock Meets I Love Lucy.”

The Jackson Pollock part of it is the drips and splatters. The heart motif is “I Love Lucy,” and I used the “I Love Lucy” font for her name. It’s 18 x 18 inches.

It’s not a typical baby gift, and I wasn’t sure how it would be received. Not everyone appreciates abstract art! I left before gift opening, but my mom and my brother reported back that everyone loved it.

Fiona is an adorable baby and it’s always uplifting to see a new life just beginning.

Where are you finding encouragement these days? I’d enjoy hearing your thoughts. You can share them with us in the comments section below.

With love and appreciation,
Cassandra
