Allowing

Hi Friends,

I recently took an online on-demand class with artist Emma Freeman called “Soul Messages: A Found Poetry Workshop.” I’m having so much fun with it!

Found Poetry is a process of selecting and cutting words that resonate from discarded magazines. The words are then put together intuitively into what Emma calls “soul messages.”

There’s a lot of serendipity involved, as well as allowing something unexpected to speak through you. The messages are arrived at intuitively rather than using conscious intent.

I placed my found poems on background collages of color and texture. Here are the four I’ve done so far. Click on the images for purchase information and to see them in a browser.

If you’re interested in taking any of Emma’s classes, sign up soon, as she’s only offering them through the end of this year.

I also finished a larger collage I’ve been working on for a long time. It was a piece that required a lot of doing and re-doing before I could get it to look the way I wanted it to look.

If you look closely, you can see that I sanded down the background text. Before that it was way too busy and distracting from the overall design. Now I think it looks pretty good, providing a more subtle surface for the black collaged pieces.

What are you allowing to come through you this new year? I’d enjoy hearing your thoughts. You can share them with us in the comments section below.

With love and appreciation,
Cassandra
