Wild strawberries in backyard.
Hi Friends,
I’ve been working on incorporating my crayon resist pieces into collage, and also trying out some other techniques that use resist in less visible ways.
I drew crayon lines on tissue paper and covered them with black sumi ink, then collaged the tissue paper into the underlayers of this piece. The dots and circles are fun!

The piece below uses graphite pencil lines and white crayon resist directly on paper that was then painted with watercolors and black sumi ink. I like the spontaneity of the marks juxtaposed with the ink and paint.

Next I used crayon resist on this collage piece, but it mostly disappeared in the subsequent layers of paint, ink and washing. I like the way the collaged words look old and distressed.

This piece also uses crayon resist on collage. Here I’m playing with adding tea-dyed words to the piece, which I think takes away from the overall whole.

The piece below is very gray and kind of dark, but I like its mysterious look and feel. You can barely make out the gray crayon resist lines.

This final piece doesn’t use any crayon at all, but I like the way the underlayers show through and the wrinkles in the tissue paper give it a botanical feel.

I’m still experimenting and giving myself time to explore.
Where are your explorations taking you? I’d enjoy hearing your thoughts. You can share them with us in the comments section below.
With love and appreciation,
Cassandra

Great work and I love your strawberry plant photo! It is so healthy!
Thanks, Cinthia! The little wild strawberries are so cute, but they’re too small to offer much in the way of eating. I’m hoping the birds and the other critters will enjoy them!
awesome new work, so reprentative of our war times
Thanks, Helga. I do find my work leaning towards the dark these days. Not sure why, but like you said, maybe the times.
