New Fiber Art

Hi Friends,

I’m just finishing up the renovation of the primary bathroom in my house, and it looks great. The room is big for a bathroom, and with all of the hard surfaces, it’s very echo-y. I decided to soften the sound and the look of it with art.

I tried some of my paintings first, but they were too busy and loud. This is a quiet room that needed something more subtle, so I decided to go with natural fiber art.

I started with one of my leaf prints on canvas, and placed it on black denim. Then I did a whole lot of stitching in three different colors of green to complement the pebble backsplash.

Here’s the result. This piece is 30 x 24 inches.

On the other side of the room I needed a smaller piece, and I decided on neutral colors with a few specks of brights. This one is 16 x 20 inches, earth pigments on raw canvas.

Overall I’m really happy with the look of the room. It just needs knobs and pulls on the drawers and cabinet doors, and a few other finishing touches, and then it’s done.

Up next, the kitchen! Yikes! How do you live without a kitchen for a couple of months? It’s going to be a challenge for sure.

What changes have you been making in your life lately? I’d enjoy hearing your thoughts. You can share them with us inthe comments section below.

With love and appreciation,
Cassandra

  1. I love the. peace of your bathroom! When my friends redid their kitchen they moved a lot of the kitchen appliances outside– not the stove, but the frog went out, and some other stuff. They cooked on a barbecue grill. It was all outside for a couple of. months.

    1. Thanks, Chris. My contractor said he can put the fridge in the dining room. Then I guess I can use a hotplate, slow cooker, toaster oven and InstantPot on the dining room table. I’m not doing dishes in my brand new bathroom! He said he can hook up a temporary sink outside. Two months? Ugh! At least the weather is warm and it’s not the rainy season! Except I did get caught in a brief downpour in Oxnard this morning, which was weird.

  2. Love the look in the bathroom Cassandra…gives me some ideas…❤️
Reno’s bring a bit of an upheaval…your art will help bring peace…and your kitties too
Your ideas for outside cooking and small appliance cooking are good…l use a large Toaster over to cook out on our deck in hot weather here in Canada…we don’t have air conditioning…basement is cool though…

    1. Hi Debbie. Yeah, you probably never needed air conditioning in the past! Same here, but it gets hot now. I’m just viewing the kitchen upheaval as an adventure. And maybe some takeout! Or a lot of takeout.
