California native Yarrow in bloom.
Hi Friends,
It’s been a busy couple of weeks, but I did manage to get four of the Sakiori wall hangings done. Sakiori is a Japanese technique of weaving with strips of fabric usually torn from old clothing. I use worn flannel shirts sourced from local thrift stores for my Sakiori pieces.
The gallery that requested this work took one of the wall hangings, and the other three are available for purchase on my website.
Here’s the piece chosen by the gallery. It’s 21 x 35.5 inches not including the hanger or the fringe. The warp threads are navy blue.

And here are the other three available wall hangings. Click on the images for more information and to see them in a browser.
Sakiori wall hanging, “Earth,” 20.5 x 32.5 inches
Sakiori wall hanging, “Gold,” 20.5 x 33.5 inches
Sakiori wall hanging, “Night Sky,” 20.5 x 33 inches
It’s interesting doing these pieces, and I’m never sure how they’ll turn out. As you can see, a lighter-colored warp looks very different from the darker warps.
The dark warps give the feeling of stained glass with bright colors showing through, but the gold warp moves to the forefront and influences the other colors.
How is your summer going so far? I’d enjoy hearing your thoughts. You can share them with us in the comments section below.
With love and appreciation,
Cassandra
